Generally, a pre wedding visit isn’t necessary as it’s rare that the
physical procedure of the day will vary a great deal. As a
photographer I can assess where to take the family photographs
within about 5 minutes of arriving at reception, the location should
be evenly lit, not in bright sunshine, with an attractive backdrop
and crucially within two minutes of the reception, so guests can get
there quickly and easily – I bring studio lights for interiors.
For the wedding I am photographing in March the service itself will
be in The Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey and reception within the
House of Lords, the guests will simply walk from one to the other.
Once within the House of Lords there are a myriad of corridors and
antechambers to disorientate and confuse, so I went along today for
a private guided tour. The guests will enter through the Great Hall
of Westminster; I will take a group photograph on the 11th century
staircase. The reception will then be in the Cholmondeley Room,
which has a terrace overlooking the Thames. I can safely assure
readers that the coffee served in the Guests Dining Room is of a
very high standard, as you might expect and I look forward to the
big day!
